Leadership and Community Development Workshop Series

Mondays from 11:20 am-12:20 pm. As part of the "Movement-Maker Monday Initiative", these monthly workshops will focus on how student groups can deepen belonging and participation in their organizations by cultivating solidarity and agency among their members and connecting with like-minded others to create collective impact.  Practical skills offered will emphasize peer empowerment, stakeholder engagement, and identifying concrete, tangible strategies to enact an organization’s mission. Workshops will be hosted in the Executive Meeting Room (unless otherwise noted). Registrations for individual workshops are available on RCommunity. XLR8: Project Management Workshops and Pitch Competition

Mondays from 11:20 am-12:20 pm. As part of the "Movement-Maker Monday Initiative", these workshops, offered in partnership with the Events Office, will provide students with project management tools and skills that will enable them to advance and enhance the activities and initiatives pursued by their organization.  In December, student groups will have an opportunity to “pitch” campus or community engagement initiatives developed through the workshops, and selected groups will receive $1,000 awards to execute their initiative during the Spring semester. Workshops will be hosted in the Executive Meeting Room (unless otherwise noted). Registrations for individual workshops are available on RCommunity. Master Class

April 29, 2025. A Masterclass on Environmental Justice & Queer Liberation-Featuring Chris Tandazo: We can’t have Environmental Justice (EJ) without Queer Liberation. These movements are deeply interconnected, as both represent resistance against systems of oppression that discriminate and marginalize people and communities based on race, class, gender, and disability. In this masterclass, we highlight the importance of the intersections between EJ and Queerness, the challenges in building bridges across movements, and the possibilities for pathways of solidarity to create a healthier, safer, and just future.

Progress Summit

April 21, 2025. Rutgers-Camden staff, faculty, and students came together to learn about updates on the campus’s first diversity strategic plan and discuss what lies ahead as we continue our commitment to maintaining an inclusive campus community.

Fourth Annual Chancellor’s Lecture

March 11, 2025. In a talk on her award-winning book The Sum of Us, McGhee will take us on a journey across the country, exploring with compassion, intelligence, and care what we lose as a result of the zero-sum paradigm—the idea that progress for some must come at the expense of others. McGhee argues that what would actually improve our lives—from our infrastructure to our education system and democracy itself—would be to come together across divides.

Annual Ida B. Wells-Barnett Lecture

February 4, 2025. An inspiring evening featuring Reverend Eric Dobson, a dynamic advocate for social justice and community empowerment. Africana Studies sponsored this event and honored the legacy of Ida B. Wells-Barnett, celebrating her impact on justice and equality.

Art of Racial Healing

January 23, 2025. Students, faculty, staff and community members joined together for a transformative celebration of creativity and connection as we honor Racial Healing Day through the power of art and expression. “The Art of Healing” brought together artists, performers, and creatives to explore themes of racial healing, unity, and resilience. Inspired by the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., this event invited participants to experience storytelling, music, visual arts, and spoken word that illuminated the journey toward collective healing and hope.

Hispanic Heritage Month Keynote Speaker

October 10, 2024. An engaging discussion that draws on an intersectional analysis of the political engagement of the Latiné/x community. Dr. Anna Sampaio (Professor of Ethnic Studies and Political Science, Santa Clara University) examines their roles as voters, candidates, and organizers, highlighting their significant impact on national politics and their crucial influence in the 2024 election.

DEI Town Hall

October 2, 2024. The Rutgers DEI Campus Climate Survey asked students, faculty, and staff about their perspectives on diversity, equity and inclusion at the institution, and we gathered to share the results for the Camden campus.
