Dr. Lee Ann Elliott Westman earned her Ph.D. in Humanities from Florida State University, and her Bachelor of Arts degree in humanities from Brigham Young University. Dr. Westman’s research focuses primarily on Mary Jane Holmes, a 19th-century American woman writer of domestic fiction who was a famous and best-selling novelist in her lifetime but is virtually unknown today. Dr. Westman teaches courses that examine the connections between history and art; she is particularly interested in the relationship between gender and literary/artistic production.

Dr. Westman is a member of the Society for the Study of American Women Writers as well as the Humanities Education and Research Association. Dr. Westman recently completed her 15-year appointment as the co-editor of HERA’s scholarly journal, Interdisciplinary Humanities. Dr. Westman edited or co-edited more than 30 issues of the journal. In her free time, Dr. Westman enjoys spending time with her family, swimming, reading, and going to the shore.
