"Conference on the Future Directions for a New Cuba: Building Sustainable Partnerships" will explore how institutions of higher learning build sustainable public-private partnerships for research and entrepreneurial programs in sustainable agriculture, education, the medical sciences, the arts, and community development. Dignitaries and leading scholars from the University of Havana, San Geronimo University, and the University of Medical Sciences of Havana will discuss research on effective strategies for increased development in Cuba as the country continues to normalize relations with the United States. Rutgers University has a formal collaboration with these institutions to unite faculty in joint research and seminars, facilitate academic and student exchanges, and share innovations in community development, population health, and the STEM fields.
The first day of this weeklong conference is open to the public, and will feature a 9:30 a.m. keynote address by Ambassador José Ramón Cabañas Rodríguez of the Cuban Mission to the United States.
