INITIATIVES
Allied Health Sciences Expo
The Allied Health Sciences Expo is a day-long event held in January for middle and high school students. During the Expo, various hospitals, research institutions, government agencies and businesses whose focus is on health present exhibits, displays and hands-on activities for the purpose of encouraging students to consider various careers in the allied health sciences. Such early and direct exposure can help students emphasize science courses when planning their high school curriculum.
Summer Science Fair Training Institute for Teachers
The Summer Science Fair Training Institute for Teachers is a 5-week course designed to train teachers and mentors in various scientific research methods from the study of drug abuse and drug addiction. In the upcoming school year, participants will use their hands-on workshop experience to help students create innovative science fair projects from research templates. Each teacher is expected to guide at least two separate projects to either the Coriell or Salem County Science Fair (depending on school district). Teachers may earn up to 100 professional development credits during the workshop.
Application
Science Fair Resource Center
The SPARC Science Fair Resource Center at Rutgers-Camden provides guidelines, forms and timetables for science fair participation, and loans literature about science fair projects, and research supplies and equipment to teachers and mentors who are helping students with science fair projects.
Curriculum Enhancement
SPARC develops activities and materials illustrating the biological, brain, behavioral and cognitive sciences for all grade levels, and provides modules illustrating basic concepts in science as well as free sample lesson plans (other materials available at cost).
