For your Protection

Lineup

To ensure pedestrian safety, Rutgers Police-Camden has an escort service that, upon request , will provide you with an escort between campus buildings and parking lots. A security van provides service between the campus, the Camden Transportation Center, and the PATCO Hi-Speed Line. The shuttle bus is driven by a university security officer who is CDL qualified. Group and individual service is available during the evening hours. Both the escort and security shuttle bus service are available by calling the police dispatcher at (856) 225-6009 or by using any public safety telephone.
Our bicycle patrol unit is very active and these patrols are used on the interior and exterior of the campus and they are instructed to maintain a very high visual presence at all times.
Making the public aware of crime prevention is the number one goal of this department. Once a year Rutgers University publishes (Safety Matters), which is distributed throughout the Newark, New Brunswick and Camden campuses. This paper provides a useful overview of security policies and procedures at Rutgers. It lists phone numbers, available programs, and information regarding the individual campuses . It includes safety tips that everyone can use. It is available to everyone who asks for information regarding our safety policies.

To receive a copy, contact the police department at

The campus has a total of 72 public safety / emergency phones located inside and outside various buildings. To reach headquarters, simply lift the receiver or push the red button and a police dispatcher will answer. In addition, emergency alarms are located in many women’s and some men’s rest rooms. These are activated by pushing on a tape or pushing a red button. The location of the emergency phone or alarm call is automatically displayed to the University Police, and a police officer is dispatched immediately to the site.
You may report suspicious or emergency conditions to any police or security officer that you see. Officers and guards are on duty at all times, patrolling on foot or in police cars. All security personnel carry two-way radios and are in direct contact with police headquarters. Anyone may report a situation in person at Rutgers University Police Headquarters, located at 409 N. 4th Street, (behind the theater and next to the gymnasium). A Police Officer is available 24 hours a day to assist you.

If you prefer, you may call the Camden City Police Department at
(856) 757-7400.
