personal

In recent years I’ve been fortunate to be able to make a career out of the things I most like to do. The risk that goes along with this is the potential for becoming so engrossed in those interests that life becomes unbalanced. So, I do actively pursue a few activities to take me away from the academic world.  The following snapshots are to add a little information about my time away from teaching and research:

This is my partner Michael

—the one who keeps me on track when I start to go crazy

This Old House

We live in an old house, which was necessary because we like really big Christmas trees and, therefore, needed high ceilings.

Other Very Important People

The new faces you see here are my son James and my granddaughter Jamie.  These photos were taken during their visit in July, 2000.  Hopefully, I'll be able to update these with new photos from a trip every summer (get the message J?)

Working Out

running.JPG (78895 bytes)

This is at the finish my one distance run (half-marathon). I’ve had to cut back on distance because of knee problems (a.k.a. getting older). But I still run some, and also do yoga, bicycling, aerobics, karate, etc. to minimize stress and, hopefully, maximize general health.

Biker Profile?

When I feel the need to move a little faster, I take out the motorcycle.  This picture is me washing down my Suzuki Bandit after a road trip to West Virginia.
Just for kicks, I took a dirt bike school while in West Virginia.  It was a lot of fun, but I don't think the environmentalists have anything to fear from me!

The Wet Look

My first (and only, so far) white-water rafting experience -- Summer, 2001, Costa Rica

Yes, I'm the one with no tan and the "one-size doesn't fit all" life vest up to my ears
