Professional and Peer Tutoring

Tutoring is the cornerstone of the TRiO/SSS program and critical to the academic success of our students.  With that in mind, the TRiO/SSS tutoring program in partnership with the Rutgers- Camden Learning Center (RCLC) provides professional and peer tutoring, supplemental instruction, and other assistance to program participants with an emphasis on building strong study skills. Using multi-modal approaches to tutoring in the areas of Writing, Math, Science, and the Social Sciences, the TRiO/SSS and RCLC tutors help students understand not only course content but also assist students in identifying strategies for improving learning.
In addition to tutoring, the RCLC also provides:

  • Academic Coaching
  • Weekly Review Sessions
  • Drop In Writing Assistance
  • Academic Support Workshops
  • Disability Services

Getting started with tutoring is very easy:

Step 1: Click here to schedule a tutoring session with RCLC.

Step 2: Notify the SSS Developmental Specialist, Dr. John France via email: johnkafrance@camden.rutgers.edu in order to fulfill the TRiO/ SSS Program Partnership Agreement requirement for  tutoring.

Advising

TRiO/Student Support Services (SSS) offers advice and assistance in course selection in addition to career planning, graduate and professional school counseling, and financial aid counseling. The majority of academic advising for undergraduate students is provided through the Office of Academic Advising while SSS provides the academic counseling to participants.  This advising structure allows students to become directly connected with their respective school/college, academic departments, and the faculty.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program provides awards of up to $5000 for U. S. undergraduate students to pursue study abroad opportunities. Award amounts vary depending on the length of study and student need, with an average award amount of $4000.

This congressionally funded program is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U. S. Department of State and is administered by the Institution of International Education-Southern Regional Center in Houston, Texas.

Grant Aid

To be considered for the award, freshman and sophomore TRiO Student Support Services participants must satisfy the following criteria:

Federal Requirements

• Pell Grant recipient

• Must have unmet financial need according to the Office of Financial Aid

The TRiO SSS Federal Student Grant Aid Award is provided by the U.S. Department of Education to support the educational pursuits of TRiO/SSS participants.  Grant amounts are dependent upon financial unmet need and availability of funds.  Federal Grant Aid Awards do not affect any other grant amounts as it serves to supplement an eligible SSS student’s financial aid packageThe Grant Aid funding is for students who are current participants, are in their first two years of postsecondary education, and are receiving Federal Pell Grants.
