Submission Guidelines: All work must be submitted electronically through our submissions portal at http://www.camden.rutgers.edu/storyquarterly/submissions.php. We continue to accept submissions year-round and are looking especially for work by new and emerging writers. We are interested in literary fiction and nonfiction, including short stories, short shorts, novel excerpts, memoirs, essays, and humor. We accept submissions up to 8,000 words in length. Payment: Between $150 and $200. Stay tuned for announcements of our Fiction Contest.
How To Submit: Enter the submissions portal through our main page and follow the simple directions. First-Time Users must sign up in order to log in and submit work. Decisions can be tracked electronically directly on the site.
What We Need: Please study the magazine to get a sense of what we publish. SQ fiction is selected on the basis of originality, art, and meaningfulness. Good storytelling and a sense of humor are especially appealing. We like to see a strong narrative design from beginning to end. Most of the work we publish is by newer writers, and we are very alert to the promise of a writer's growth and of future works that may be discerned in submissions we see.
