Through our public safety and health programs, Rutgers-Camden continuously works to provide a secure environment for learning, teaching, working, and relaxing.
The Rutgers University Police Department patrols the campus and its neighborhood on foot, on bicycle, and in patrol cars 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Consisting of 18 full-time commissioned police officers, 45 security guards, and four dispatchers, the police department places Rutgers-Camden among only a half-dozen colleges and universities in New Jersey that have their own commissioned police forces.

- Rutgers-Camden has a strong record of providing a secure and comfortable environment for its students. Our annual statistics of security activity on and immediately adjacent to our campus shows that Rutgers-Camden takes your safety seriously. Check out those statistics online at http://www.camden.rutgers.edu/~rupdcamd/safetymatters.htm.
- We invest in technology and people to keep our campus secure. Rutgers patrols our campus and neighborhood 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Our police force is fully commissioned and trained alongside the same police officers who serve your towns; our security guards are vigilant and a visible presence across our campus. More than 50 cameras deliver real-time laser feeds into our RUPD dispatcher, and dozens of emergency phones across the campus connect directly to the RUPD.
- Rutgers continuously refines its safety initiatives to best serve our students. At Rutgers-Camden, we know that security demands flexibility and continuous improvement. We developed an escort service that is available to all students upon demand. Our shuttle bus service provides transportation between our secured main parking lot and the center of the campus. And the Rutgers police department works in close partnership with the Camden Police Department, the DRPA, and the security forces of our neighbors.
- Camden is a city of neighborhoods. And Rutgers-Camden is located in the heart of the bustling Camden Waterfront neighborhood, which attracts more than three million visitors every year to such attractions as the Tweeter Center, the Adventure Aquarium, and Campbell’s Field. If you’ve been to the Camden Waterfront, then you’ve been to Rutgers-Camden.
