The Rutgers–Camden Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) advises members of the campus community in securing external grants for existing needs and special projects in research, education, and community service. From funding identification to budget proposal to project design, OSR assists community members in pursuing scholarly research and creative activities through a variety of support services.
Funding Sources
OSR provides assistance in identifying sources of external and internal funding for projects. The office forwards possible grant opportunities from publications such as Federal Register and Federal Agency Weekly to faculty members and disseminates information about internal Rutgers awards.
Training
The office trains individuals on using Community of Science (COS), the Grants Advisor Plus, Grants.gov, and other databases of public and private funding opportunities.
Program Guidelines
Faculty can receive support in implementing the guidelines and application materials set by the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and other federal and state programs as well as corporations and foundations
Project Design
Preceding proposal preparation, OSR provides consultation and assistance in the project design phase. The office provides coordinates of campus-wide, multidisciplinary, and/or interinstitutional projects.
Compliance
The office advises applicants on, and provides assistance in obtaining information on, responsible conduct of research including issues involving human subjects, animal protection, conflict of interest, scientific misconduct, and more.
Proposal Preparation
As a resource in preparing proposals, OSR provides editorial assistance and critique of proposals.
Budget Preparation
The office provides consultation with all phases of proposal budget design, preparation, and presentation, as well as in completing all required federal budget forms, budget narratives, and assurances.
Agency/Foundation Contact and Follow-up
As liaison to federal and state agencies, OSR establishes funding opportunities and follows up on proposals. The office also works closely with Rutgers University Foundation’s Corporate and Foundation Relations on associated requests.
University Review and Endorsement
The office helps to secure the necessary approvals — including official signatures — required on the Rutgers University Endorsement Form. It can approve proposal budgets and review and negotiate terms of grant agreements and contracts.
Proposal Transmittal
OSR submits proposals to agencies electronically and arranges next-day courier delivery of proposals to federal and state agencies, foundations, and corporations.
