Orientation 2008: Parent Program
Parent Orientation Schedule

At Rutgers-Camden, we strive to strengthen the relationship between parents and the university as it is extremely important for the success of the student. Informed parents can and do influence the success of their children when they attend college. The more you know about the academic resources and services available to your son or daughter, the better prepared you will be to ask the “right” questions or provide the most helpful answers.

As partners, we can collectively offer advice in order to foster the best educational experience possible. We understand how stressful it can be starting the new chapter in your child’s life. Our Parent Orientation Program is designed to help alleviate some of the stress and familiarize you through our services. Our hope is that you will find out answers to all of your questions and become aware of services so that you can empower your son or daughter. Our goal, is simple. We want to work with you over the next several years, fostering a path way to success in order for your son or daughter to graduate from Rutgers-Camden and make a difference in our world.

All parents are encouraged to join us for the Parent Orientation Program during Keys to Success.

SPECIAL NOTES:
  • Student and Parent Orientation Programs run simultaneously, so please plan accordingly.
  • As we understand, that you may want to be with your child as they learn about the campus, we believe that students need to start assuming primary responsibility for their academic and co-curricular decisions immediately. During the STUDENT ONLY sessions, students will receive individual attention from their peer mentor and faculty or administrator.
  • We love showing off Rutgers-Camden to “future” students, however we discourage bringing younger children, since the program is of little interest to them.
In the meantime, we recommend picking up one or more of the following resources below which help to address relationship changes, anticipated concerns and more!
  • Letting Go: A Parents' Guide to Understanding the College Years, by Karen Levin Coburn and Madge Lawrence Treeger, Perennial Books, 2003.
  • When Your Kid Goes to College: A Parent's Survival Guide, by Carol Barkin, Avon Books, 1999.
  • You're On Your Own (But I'm Here if You Need Me): Mentoring Your Child During the College Years, by Majorie Savage, 2003.
