LGBTQIA+ Initiatives

11 or More

Based on research from the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network, we know that in high schools where lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, asexual, intersex, plus (LGBTQIA+) and same gender loving (SGL) students can identify at least 11 supportive faculty and staff members, they are more likely to feel safe and supported. However, only 39 percent of LGBTQIA+ high school students can identity 11 or more supportive faculty and staff at their school. Although Rutgers-Camden cannot change the environments our students come from, we can work to create an inclusive environment for LGBTQIA+ students on our campus. The 11 or More Project is a comprehensive support program to make sure that all LGBTQIA+ and SGL students can identify 11 or more supportive faculty and staff at Rutgers-Camden.An ongoing gallery of portraits and statements from supportive faculty and staff at Rutgers-Camden can be found here.

Safe Zone is a campus-wide nationally recognized training program committed to making Rutgers-Camden a safer, more welcoming, and inclusive environment for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, asexual, intersex, plus (LGBTQIA+) and same gender loving (SGL) communities. The goal of the program is to create campus allies through a comprehensive training program.

Campus Pride Index

The Campus Pride Index sets the bar for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, asexual, intersex, plus (LGBTQIA+) and same gender loving (SGL) inclusive policies, programs and practices across college campuses in the US. Rutgers-Camden takes the Index seriously and we are actively working to be included in the Index
