Rutgers-Camden Student Accepted to Prestigious Summer Marketing Program

CAMDEN — As many companies ramp up their demand for new talent with real-world business experience, a Rutgers–Camden student is staying ahead of the curve by spending a portion of her summer with business professionals.

Monica Hutchinson, a Berlin resident, has been selected to participate in the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation’s Interactive Marketing Immersion Xperience (I-MIX) program in New York City from Aug. 6-10.

The prestigious, selective program is designed for undergraduate business students who are considering a career in marketing. The Direct Marketing Educational Foundation helps attract, educate, and place college students in direct/interactive marketing careers.

During the week-long intensive program, students are immersed in seminars focused on interactive marketing.

Hutchinson is double majoring in marketing and management with a concentration in international business at the Rutgers School of Business–Camden. An Eastern Regional High School graduate, the Rutgers–Camden senior says she’s excited to be one of only 30 students selected from a national pool of entrants.

Hutchinson is hopeful the I-MIX program will help enhance her business education and advance her career goals.

“I’m looking forward to deepening my understanding of interactive marketing through workshops, business case analysis, and discussions with executives and experts in the field, while also learning about new and evolving trends in marketing,” Hutchinson says.

Presentations scheduled during the week-long camp provide students with a deep understanding of strategic marketing concepts and practical application. Seminars are led by various marketing executives and leading business academics.

Students also participate in a career and resume workshop, helping them gain a decided edge in the marketplace.

To gain admission to the program, Hutchinson was required to submit an essay describing her interest in direct and interactive marketing and how I-MIX relates to her academic major and career goals.

Hutchinson is the second Rutgers–Camden student to participate in the I-MIX program. Rutgers–Camden Business School graduate Kristen Abdallah was selected for the program in 2011.

Hutchinson says her experience at Rutgers–Camden has been invaluable. An Honors College student, she is also involved in Rutgers–Camden’s International Studies Program and the Business Leader Development Program.

“Rutgers–Camden has prepared me for my life as a professional in so many ways,” she says. “The curriculum is challenging and relevant to the real world. I can say without a doubt that my experience at Rutgers–Camden has provided me with the knowledge, skills, and tools that I need in order to position myself as one of tomorrow’s business leaders.”
