Children and Genocide in Rwanda to be Discussed During Rutgers-Camden Lecture on Oct. 3

CAMDEN --  The situation confronting children in Rwanda will be discussed by representatives of the Benebikira Sisters Foundation during a special lecture at Rutgers–Camden at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3.

Sister Anna Beata Murekatete and Sister Thierry Dominque, both Roman Catholic nuns of the Benebikira Sisters congregation in Rwanda, will discuss “Working with Children after the Rwandan Genocide.”  During their talk, they will discuss the orphanage and school they started as a refuge for child survivors of the Rwandan genocide of 1994 and today serves a wide range of children with housing, support, and education. They will also discuss larger implications for aiding children in Africa and children’s rights.

The event, which is free of charge and open to the public, will be held in the Faculty Lounge on the third floor of Armitage Hall, located at 311 North Fifth Street on the Camden Campus of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.

The lecture is sponsored by the Departments of Childhood Studies and Philosophy and Religion at Rutgers–Camden.
