The graduate program in psychology combines rigorous academic classes with an individually supervised research apprenticeship. This 30-credit program focuses on basic and applied research but does not offer training in psychological counseling. Consistent with the goals of the field’s two major professional organizations—the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science—the curriculum emphasizes scientific research methods that can be used to assist in the solution of real-world problems.
The master of arts program is designed for students preparing for admission to a doctoral program, and those who seek employment in such applied settings as education, the health professions, business, the legal system, and social services. Classes are held in the evening to accommodate students who work during the day.
