Rutgers–Camden is home to the first PhD granting program in childhood studies in the nation. Comprising a range of academic fields whose work focuses on children and childhood, faculty in the Department of Childhood Studies provide the interdisciplinary foundation of the graduate program. Students work closely with faculty—top scholars in their respective fields—to explore children and childhood in historical, political, cultural, multicultural, national, and global contexts.

Research opportunities are available through the Center for Children and Childhood Studies at Rutgers–Camden. Graduates emerge well-equipped to engage in research, pursue policy issues, become leaders in social practice and policy, and work within communities and organizations.
