The internship program encourages service in both governmental and non-profit agencies to benefit the community, provides valuable work experience for students interested in careers in government and public sector administration, and documents extracurricular involvement of the types valued by leading law schools and graduate programs.
GOVERNMENT SERVICE INTERNSHIP
ADVISING
Those students minoring in public administration and government serice
(see program description) must complete an internship in government
service. This may be fulfilled through work and study in a public
agency, office, or program. Dr.
Russell Harrison coordinates these internships and advises the
interns for the department.
5-YEAR B.A./M.P.A. INTERNSHIPS
As in any professional degree program, practical experience is a key
component of a B.A./M.P.A. student's education. A 3-credit internship
is arranged in which each student assists an individual in a public
management role. Internships are closely supervised to ensure that the
student has a worthwhile experience. Paid interships may be available
for individuals who qualify for work-study funding.
