VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Project C.O.P.E. Mentoring Program
America's most isolated and at-risk children are the estimated 7.3 million who have one or both parents under some form of state or federal supervision. Without effective intervention, 70 percent of these children will likely follow their parent's path into jail or prison.
There are more than 28,000 "at-risk" children in the city of Camden. Some may have one or more parents who are incarcerated. Project C.O.P.E. (Children Obtaining a Positive Environment) is a mentoring program designed to empower youth in our community who have an incarcerated parent. Project C.O.P.E. is looking for mentor volunteers to work with children in Camden, ages 4 to 14. Become a mentor with Project C.O.P.E. and support, guide, or simply be a friend to a young person for a period of at least one year. Just one hour a week is all it takes.

Mentors must be at least 18 years of age, and high school graduate, and reside in the Delaware Valley area. Mentors who have access to an automobile must show proof of insurance and have a good driving record.

Mentors can help a child: develop higher levels of self-esteem, achieve greater academic ability, improve behavioral and social relations, grow into strong, confident adults.

Studies show that children involved with mentoring programs are less likely to begin using illegal drugs, consume alcohol, skip school or engage in acts of violence.

If you would like to be a mentor volunteer please print and fill out the mentor application documents and mail with a copy of your valid state ID or driver's liscense and insurance card to:
Project C.O.P.E.
584 Benson Street
Camden, NJ 08103
Background checks are required for all potential mentors.

For more information on Project C.O.P.E., please call (856) 225-0024 or visit the website: http://www.centerffs.org/programs/ProjectCOPE.htm
