FIVE YEAR BA/MPA PROGRAM
ECONOMICS DEPT-CCAS

Admissions:

Prospective students will follow the admission procedures already established by the Economics and Graduate faculties. Students would have to be admitted to the College of Arts and Sciences (or UC) and, at the appropriate time, apply for admission to the Graduate School .

In order to qualify for the joint degree program, economics majors must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.000, complete the three pre-requisite courses for admission to the graduate program – Statistics, Economics and American Government. Statistics (and Econometrics) and Economics are already required for the Economics major. American Government must be taken as an undergraduate elective before admission to the Graduate School . Students admitted to the Graduate School must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.000 in the MPA program.

Students will apply for admission during the first semester of their senior year. Students who do not maintain a 3.000 GPA can have their admission revoked. Students must be cleared by the Chairs of the Economics Department and The MPA program in order to register for graduate credit in the second semester of their senior year. Students admitted to the MPA program may count 9 of their graduate credits toward their Economics elective requirements and their MPA requirements, i.e. these courses may be double-counted toward the BA and MPA degrees. This substitution has been approved by the Economics Faculty. Most students should be able to take the normal number of economics electives and still complete the program. The model curriculum for the joint BA/MPA can be found in the online catalogue or in the printed version of the catalogue.
