Q-STEP Program at Rutgers-Camden
A new program, called Q-STEP, has been instituted on the Rutgers-Camden campus so as to increase the numbers of successful graduates in the sciences and mathematics and to enhance the level of their quantitative skills. A fundamental activity of the Q-STEP program is the creation of a community of scholars in the quantitative sciences. The community will provide a supportive social network, increased chances for group study and problem-solving, peer tutoring, and opportunities for early and consistent involvement in research. Two distinct groups will be targeted. Q-STEP Scholars will be entering freshmen, while Q-STEP Mentors will be more advanced students (in their junior year).
Q-STEP Scholars
Freshmen interested in majoring in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics at Rutgers-Camden are invited to apply to become Q-STEP Scholars.
Q-STEP Scholars will receive several benefits:
- Membership in a supportive learning community which will help you throughout your Rutgers-Camden education
- Access to a separate Q-STEP space for meetings, study and socializing
- Opportunities for group study and problem-solving
- Mentoring and tutoring by a select group of upper-level students (the Q-STEP Mentors)
- Chances to be selected for summer research support
In turn, the Q-STEP Scholars will agree to participate in weekly problem-solving sessions and other required QSTEP activities.
There are a limited number of openings for the Q-STEP Scholars each year. When you apply, you will be asked to provide information which will be used to track you through the program. However, your answers to these questions will not affect your chances of getting into the program. All Rutgers-Camden freshmen who plan on majoring in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics will have an equal chance to be admitted to the Q-STEP Scholars program.
