ICI Downtime for 1/3/08:

Camden Computing Services needs to perform some maintenance on the ICI subnet on 1/3/07 between 6:15am and 7:30am.  During this downtime, the following services will be unavailable:
Student Home Directory Access (H: Drive)
 Student Email (email.clam.rutgers.edu)
During this downtime no email or personal files will be lost, however email may be delayed for an hour.  The maintenance is needed in order to increase the network bandwidth for the ICI subnet.  Please send email to help@camden.rutgers.edu or call (856) 225-6274 if you have any questions or concerns.

Camden Campus Network Outage - 12/26/2007:

Starting December 26th, network services to the following buildings will be affected by a planned power outage on the campus:

  • Armitage Hall
  • Fine Arts
  • Gym
  • ASB
  • Robeson Library
  • Law School
  • 406 Penn
Network equipment in the affected buildings will be shut down to prevent electrical damage. This will begin at approximately 7AM on December 26th. The network will remain unavailable in these buildings until after power is permanently restored. Depending upon the duration of the power outage, some or all of the affected buildings may not regain network connectivity until late in the day on the 26th or 9AM on Thursday, December 27th. Power to the Law School will be out longer than to the other buildings, so its network will be unavailable until some time between the evening of December 27th and Noon on December 28th (Friday).

Requests for Required Software Installation in the Computing Services Labs:

Faculty members who require a specific software application to be available on public lab PCs for the Spring 2008 semester should bring the software to Camden Computing Services no later than January 2, 2008. Due to the time required to load and test new software in the labs, and the time spent by Computing Services staff on their routine responsibilities, sufficient time must be allowed prior to the start of the Spring semester in order to fulfill your requests.

Computing Services is unable to guarantee the installation of any software presented later than this date.

We appreciate your cooperation.

For this maintenance period, systems will be intermittently taken down for a period of 15-20 minutes per system (reboot).  The time frame of 1 hour represents the time it will take for all ESS-ASB systems to be rebooted.  Critical production systems will be rebooted first, thus we only expect these systems to be affected within the first ½ hour of the maintenance period.  This notice does not mean that all systems will be down for the 1 hour window.

Please check the following web site for Computer Lab Hours beginning with the Thanksgiving Holiday and ending with the New Year's Holiday. Please note the extended hours during the last three weeks of the semester:

Network Link to NB Disruption:

On Tuesday morning, November 6, 2007, OIT will be moving the fiber patch cables from the Verizon Von lines going to NB from older routers to newer routers.  This activity will start approximately at 6:30am and be completed by 7:30am.

Both of the new routers have been running in test mode for over two weeks.  Armitage Hall will be affected first and then the Business & Science building will be moved.

We do not expect any noticeable downtime by the user community.  There may on some slowness experienced when each of the cables are actually moved (about 10 minutes each).

OIT maintains two separate 150MB links to NB where each is designed to take over if one should fail. So, as mentioned above, there should be minimal slowness seen. As we plan for an increase in the size of the links to NB, we must move services over to these newer routers.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Help Desk at 732-445-HELP.
