Apartments ResNet Expiring
SUMMARY:
On January 5, 2006 all residents will be required to run RUCompliant in order
to make sure that your computer is up to date with Windows patches and Antivirus Software.
DETAILS:
Before the spring semester begins, Computing Services requires all students to run RUCompliant, even
if you ran it prior to January 5, 2006. On the morning of January 5, 2006 you must visit
http://resnet.rutgers.edu
and click on the Getting Connected link, then click on the RUCompliant link and
follow the directions. Until you do this, you will not have full access to the Internet.
In order to make this process run smoothly, we strongly encourage all residents to make sure that
your computer remains up to date with Windows patches and Antivirus software during the winter break.
You can keep your Windows patches up to date by visiting:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
All Rutgers students may download a free copy of McAfee Antivirus software from the Rutgers Antivirus Delivery Service, found here:
http://mssg.rutgers.edu/documentation/rads
We highly recommend the Rutgers Antivirus Delivery Service (RADS) because it automatically updates your Antivirus software
for you. Any active Internet connection will allow RADS to update. Even if you are connecting to the Internet while you are
home during the winter break.
Please note that Macintosh and Linux/UNIX users also have to run RUCompliant. If you use one of these operating systems,
you will automatically pass RUCompliant.
If you are getting a new computer over the winter break you must contact the Help Desk to have your
old computer de-registered. Then you will have to register your new computer and pass RUCompliant, which you can do by
visiting this site:
http://resnet.rutgers.edu
and clicking on the Register Your Computer Now link and following the directions. Until you de-register your old
computer, register your new one, and pass RUCompliant, you will not have full access to the Internet.
If you have any questions, please contact the Help Desk by calling (856)225-6274 or by sending email to
help@camden.rutgers.edu. Please note that
the Computing Services Help Desk and all staff offices will close at 5pm on December 23, 2005 and will not reopen until
8am on January 3, 2006.
TOWERS RESNET EXPIRING :
TOWERS RESIDENTS:
ON JANUARY 5, 2006 AT 3AM, YOUR CURRENT RESNET REGISTRATION WILL EXPIRE. AT THAT TIME, YOU WILL NO LONGER HAVE INTERNET ACCESS.
You will need to visit, http://resnet.rutgers.edu to re-register
your computer and pass RUCompliant. Just click on the Register Your Computer Now link and follow the directions to regain full Internet access.
Your registration will expire the morning of January 5, 2006. Pleasewait until you can not access external websites (e.g. http://www.google.com) before you re-register and pass RUCompliant.
If you are off campus at this time, you will need to re-register and pass
RUcompliant when you return to campus to regain full Internet access.
In order to make this a smooth process, we encourage you to make
sure that your computer remains up to date with windows patches and virus
protection software during the winter break. If you are getting a new

break. All you need is an active Internet coonection.
Macintosh and Linux/UNIX users also have to run RUCompliant. If you
use of of these operating systems, you will automatically pass ruCompliant.

Requests for Required Software Installation
in the Computing Services Labs:
Faculty members who require a specific software application to be available on public lab PCs for the Spring 2006 semester should bring the software to Camden Computing Services no later than January 3, 2006. Due to the time required to load and test new software in the labs, and the time spent by Computing Services staff on their routine responsibilities, sufficient time must be allowed prior to the start of the Spring semester in order to fulfill your requests.
Computing Services is unable to guarantee the installation of any software presented less than two weeks before it's needed for a class.
We appreciate your cooperation.
Data Center Outage
The Administrative Services Building (ASB-I) on Busch Campus will have an electrical power outage from December 27, 2005 through December 29, 2005. As a result, all central administrative applications will be unavailable including IMS access and web-based applications such as Term Bill payments, Grade access, Grade submission, access to Rosters and Procure to Pay. While we recognize this may cause some inconvenience, the long term benefits of this downtime are significant. The purpose of the outage is to complete the installation of an emergency generator which will provide continuous electrical support for the computer equipment located in ASB-I in the event of an extended power outage. This will allow the applications and systems directly in support of students, faculty and staff to remain available for use.
Reserve Scantron Optical Scanner
Anyone wishing to score final exams on the Scantron Optical Scanner in room 132, Business & Science Building, reservations are now being accepted. Faculty using the scanner, their department secretary or TA should have already been instructed on it's use. Computing Services is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the Scantron ES2800, not scoring the tests. Please go to the following web page, http://computing.camden.rutgers.edu/reservations/ and click on view under "Scantron Exam Scanner" to check for available time slots. Click on "email" next to Ann Bilbrough's name to send her the day and time you are requesting. Your reservation will be confirmed via e-mail.
Extended Sunday Hours
Computing Services has extended Sunday hours for the last three weekends of the Fall '05 Semester. The computer labs in the Business & Science Building will be open from 9 am to 10 pm on Sunday 11/27, 12/4 and 12/11.
