You’re considered a transfer student if you are a high school graduate who will have completed at least 12 college credits since high school (24 for the Rutgers School of Business–Camden), and before your expected date of entry into Rutgers. (This does not apply to current high school students who have taken or are currently taking college courses for credit.)

How to Apply to Rutgers as a Transfer Student

  1. Complete the Undergraduate Admissions Application
  2. Submit information about your extra-curricular activities. If you would like us to consider this information, it must be included in the section provided on the application. 
  3. Include your personal essay. Recommended, but not required for transfer students. You essay must be included in the space provided on the application for consideration. 
  4. Pay the $65 application fee online or by mail.
  5. Submit your official college transcripts from any colleges or universities attended. 
  6. Submit your official high-school transcript or GED results, which must include all courses from grade 9 through graduation. 

SAT/ACT test scores are not required for most transfer applications but may be requested by admissions in specific circumstances.

If admitted, students typically will receive their transfer credit evaluation two to three business days after acceptance.

School of Nursing Transfer Applicants

Students should apply to the Rutgers School of Nursing–Camden via the Undergraduate Admissions Application by February 1. Prospective nursing transfer students typically receive their admission decision from the admissions office by the middle of April. Based on a review of transcripts, applicants may be accepted into the second or third year of the program. More information about transferring to the School of Nursing

Teacher Preparation Transfer Applicants

Applying to the teacher preparation program or the Institute for Effective Education Certification Program is a two-step process.

  1. Students apply to the College of Arts and Sciences via the Undergraduate Admissions Application.
  2. If accepted and enrolled at Rutgers–Camden, students then speak to the academic advising office about applying to the teacher preparation program.

School of Social Work Applicants

Students should apply early in the spring of their sophomore year of college for entry admission into the BASW program for the fall. The application deadline is February 15. There is no admission to the BASW program for the spring semester.

Non-matriculating Transfer Applicants

Transfer students interested in applying as a non-matriculating students complete the Undergraduate Admissions Application and meet the normal admissions criteria. Non-matriculating applicants do not need to submit their high school transcript. 

Visiting Students

Are you a visiting student enrolled at another college or university and interested in taking courses at Rutgers–Camden during the fall or spring semesters? To register for classes, you must first apply for non-degree study using the Undergraduate Admissions Application. You must be in good academic standing at your current school. College transcripts and the application fee are required.

Current Rutgers Students

Rutgers students who have not yet graduated but would like to change schools and pursue a degree at another Rutgers undergraduate school must apply for a school-to-school transfer

Rutgers students enrolled in an undergraduate degree program who would like to pursue an additional undergraduate degree at another Rutgers school after graduation should apply using the re-enrollment application

Students who left Rutgers or stopped taking classes and wish to return should also re-apply for admission using the re-enrollment application.
