Mariel Ruocco: A Rutgers Liberal Studies Degree at CCC

After Mariel Ruocco finished her associate’s degree at Camden County College in Blackwood, she started working on a Rutgers University–Camden degree with no change to her routine. “Enrolling in the Rutgers at CCC program was a very easy process, especially because I was already on the CCC campus,” she said. “All of my credits were printed and transferred over on the same day I was accepted.”

Close to Home

A 2009 graduate of Lindewold High School, she earned an associate in applied science degree in ophthalmic science technology from Camden County College in 2012. She is now studying for her bachelor’s in liberal arts in the bachelor’s degree completion program at Camden County College’s Blackwood campus. “The best thing about the Rutgers at CCC program is that it is close to my home,” said Ruocco, a licensed optician who lives in Pine Hill. “Since I graduated from CCC, I'm already familiar with the campus and know my way around. It's really in my comfort zone and makes life a lot easier for me since I'm already so busy. This program is convenient for people with families. It saves time and money.”

An Affordable Education

Ruocco said in-state tuition and the convenience of a payment plan helps her manage the expense of college. “The payment plan through Rutgers is also a life and money saver. To this day I have no loans or debt and I recently became a new home owner. I receive enough financial aid that my mother doesn't need to help me pay anymore.”

An Empowered Future

Ruocco said she will have more options in her career with a bachelor’s degree in hand. “The liberal arts degree is a great choice for people who want a broad area of study. I have big goals and dreams, so I know that a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers at CCC was the perfect move for me.”
