Community Outreach

A great state university applies its expertise to improve the quality of life, and Rutgers–Camden meets that challenge as no one else can. Rutgers–Camden is making a difference in your community with programs that bring people together, foster neighborhood revitalization, and drive economic growth. Faculty, students, staff, graduates, and friends are delivering services that help citizens in New Jersey and the metro Philadelphia region, as well as across the nation and around the world, succeed.

In the City of Camden, Rutgers anchors the University District and the Camden Waterfront, and fuels development and growth activities across the city’s diverse neighborhoods. Pro bono legal programs provide city and area residents with valuable guidance through complex legal matters. Rutgers students apply their classroom learning to real-world situations in city hospitals, courts, schools, and governmental and non-profit agencies. Children open their imaginations and their futures through exposure to arts programs hosted on campus and in the community. And Rutgers opens its campus to its neighbors while continuously renovating and restoring the original Victorian beauty of venerable properties.

Across southern New Jersey, Rutgers–Camden applies its renowned expertise as a resource to address the public policy challenges of the Garden State in matters ranging from a new state Constitutional Convention to regional land use. The next generation of southern New Jersey’s leaders engage in training programs designed to enhance their ability to guide the state into the 21st century, while numerous initiatives help teachers and childcare providers in Camden and the region to prepare themselves, and their students, for new models of learning and growth. Businesses are nurtured through every stage of their life cycle – from idea conception to business plan development to multinational expansion – thanks to Rutgers–Camden services.

Across every academic program, Rutgers incorporates opportunities for students to work in their communities. Faculty often apply their research to matters of immediate significance to contemporary society. As a result, both the City of Camden and the larger State of New Jersey work in close concert with Rutgers to develop programs that serve students, scholars, and citizens alike.

As befits New Jersey’s flagship public research university, Rutgers–Camden is an integral part of its city and region. Learn more about how Rutgers–Camden collaborates with communities and organizations to improve the quality of life for New Jersey and the world.
