Development Office: Why Give?
The Faculty of Arts and Sciences serves the region, state, nation, and world by providing a rich and comprehensive source of higher education; developing new knowledge through research and creative achievement; and engaging and serving the community using knowledge-based responses to major issues.
Because tuition, State, and Federal funding cover less than half the cost of providing the quality of education we aim to achieve, we are becoming increasingly dependant on the support of private philanthropy. It is imperative that we increase the size of our endowment in order to maintain a fiscally sound basis for our current programming and a foundation for future growth.
In order to achieve our goals we must:
Formalize and expand opportunities for undergraduate research
Strengthen the Honors College
Endow our centers of excellence
Create new Ph.D. programs
Expand Master's degree programs
Develop additional dual and joint degree programs
Offer flexible degree programs
Establish non-degree and certificate programs
Develop offsite programs
Add a new science building
Construct and renovate classroom and office space
Increase the number of faculty
With the support of alumni and friends of the University, we can
- Offer scholarships to recruit and retain the best students in the state and around the world. Students receiving scholarships have more time to focus on their studies.
- Offer competitive fellowships necessary to attract graduate students.
- Increase the amount of funding available for student research. Participating in research projects with faculty provides an invaluable experience for our students. It opens doors, expands their world knowledge, and better prepares them for their future.
- Create lecture series and invite world known speakers to engage our students in thinking and action beyond the classroom walls.
