Academic Advising and Student Services

 

Academic Advising /Registration

Undergraduate students work with academic advisors to register for classes, discuss majors and minors, change schedules, and stay on schedule to complete the course requirements for their degree programs. Once students in the College of Arts and Sciences and University College have selected their major, they should seek advice from their departmental advisor. Students in the School of Business should see the assistant dean for advising.

Academic advisors handle many functions, including certain overrides, policy appeals, probation advising, college-to-college applications, scholastic standing, senior review, re-enrollments, withdrawals from college, and any other academically related advising or policy issues.

Many students will be able to evaluate their progress toward the degree by using the Degree Navigator Program, which allows students to track which requirements have been met and which still need to be taken.

Placement Testing

Internationl Student Services
Provide services to assist F-1, F-2, J-1 and J-2students in their transition to campus and to maintain Visa status throughout the academic experience. A few of the services include: Preparation of paperwork required for optional practical training (OPT) and curricular practical training (CPT), endorsing of necessary documents for travel outside the United States and coordinating workshops to assist students with concerns related to immigration, employment, in addition to social and personal adjustments. It is mandatory that International students meet with the International Student advisors each semester. Judicial Affairs and Discipline

Violations of the Student Code of Conduct are considered serious infractions of student behavior and subject to penalties relative to the level of the matter. Academic integrity matters are handled directly by the academic units. Non academic matters are handled by the Associate Provost for Student Affairs.

Classroom Behavior Guidelines for faculty and students

 

Probation, Warning, Petitions and Committee on Scholastic Standing

Students receive warnings and are placed on probation when their academic progress is determined to be at risk. Students receive notice via email and letters and are encouraged to seek the assistance of the Camden Learning Center, their professors or other advising services in order to get their academic progress on a successful track. Petitions include retroactive withdrawal, retroactive cancellation, and extension of Repeat Option. These should be submitted to the academic unit of the course that was taken. For Arts & Sciences, they should be submitted to the Camden Learning Center on the 2nd Floor of Armitage Hall. For the School of Business they should be submitted to the School of Business Academic Services Office on the 2nd Floor of SBC. Forms available from the online form link above.

Committee on Scholastic Standing. Liaison for review process of each student at the end of each term; inform students of academic standing. Advise students of the conditions they must meet to remain in good academic standing. Collect all petitions for committee including readmission and retroactive withdrawal.

Transfer Student Services

Many students choose to transfer to Rutgers-Camden to complete their baccalaureate degrees. The evaluation of transfer credits from other colleges and universities is the responsibility of the Rutgers-Camden Enrollment Management Team, which incorporates the admissions, financial aid, and registrar's offices. Academic Advisors in the various academic units assist students in determining what courses are needed for their degree requirements based on their transfer credit evaluations.
