Academics: Scholastic Standing Policy Scholastic Standing Policy Online Resource Guide2007-2008 Academic Year This information is intended for all Rutgers-Camden College of Arts and Sciences or University College students. The purpose of this information is to ensure that all students have a detailed understanding of the various scholastic standing policies, as well as, knowledge of the academic support services offered to College of Arts and Sciences students. Policy: Students who have at least a 2.00 cumulative grade point average and whose term grade point average was at least a 2.00 are in good academic standing with the college. Poor Academic Performance
Academic Warning Students will be removed from academic warning once they achieve a term grade point average during the next full academic term (either Fall or Spring) of at least a 2.00 provided that their cumulative grade point average is at least a 2.00 as well. Academic Probation: Students are sent a letter to their home address on file with the university notifying them of their academic probation status for the upcoming semester. All students also will have an academic hold placed on their registration privileges and will only be able to make changes to their registration by visiting one of the Assistant Deans in the Academic Advising Office on the 2nd Floor of Armitage Hall. Students will be removed from academic probation if their cumulative grade point average is at least a 2.00 at the conclusion of the probation term. Students on academic probation who do not earn a cumulative grade point average of at least a 2.00 at the conclusion of the probation term will either be dismissed from the university or placed on continued probation dependend of the decision of the Faculty Committee on Scholastic Standing. Students will be notified in writing as to the decision. Students who were on academic probation and who failed to raise their cumulative grade point average to at least a 2.00 may be placed on continued probation as opposed to being dismissed. Students are sent a letter to their home address on file with the university notifying them of their continued probation status for the upcoming semester. Continued Probation: Students who are placed on continued probation are typically required to earn a 2.50 term gpa, register for no more than 12 credits and meet on a regular basis with the Learning Specialist at the Rutgers-Camden Learning Center to develop an academic game plan for the upcoming term. Students who fail to meet all of the conditions of their continued probation most likely will be dismissed from the university unless they also raise their cumulative grade point average to at least a 2.00. Students who meet all of the conditions of their continued probation, but who still have a cumulative grade point average of below a 2.00 will be placed on continued probation for an additional term. Academic Dismissal: Students may also be dismissed if their cumulative grade point average drops below the following levels:
Readmission After Dismissal: Students can visit the Academic Advising website at http://advising.camden.rutgers.edu/forms/index.html to download a readmission appeal form. Students are instructed to complete and submit the form to the Academic Advising Office (2nd FL ARM). Dismissed students are instructed to enroll at an accredited academic institution and earn at least 12 transferable credits with at least a 2.5 GPA in order to be considered for readmission. Students seeking to be readmitted in the Fall term must submit readmission forms by August 1 and by December 1 to be considered for Spring term readmission. Both the original and the repeated course grade appear on the student's permanent academic record, but only the better of the two grades of the repeated course is computed in the cumulative grade-point average. Degree credit is allowed only once, when the course is passed the first time. Retroactive Course Withdrawals: Ordinarily the committee considers petitions for retroactive course withdrawal no later than 1 year after the conclusion of the term in which the course(s) was taken. Students can obtain the necessary forms at the Academic Advising Office or download them online at http://advising.camden.rutgers.edu/forms/index.html All forms are to be submitted to the Academic Advising Office. Students will be notified in writing by the Chair of the Scholastic Standing Committee as to the outcome of their appeal. Academic Forgiveness Policy: Students who have under a 2.00 cumulative grade point average and who have been not enrolled at any Rutgers University campus for at least ten successive semesters may be eligible for academic forgiveness from one entire term of coursework or 12 total credits of coursework. Courses that are granted forgiveness will still have the original grade appear on the student's transcript; however, the grades for these courses will not factor into the student's cumulative grade point average. An e-credit prefix will be placed on the transcript which notes that academic forgiveness has been granted for the course. Students can obtain the necessary forms to apply for Academic Forgiveness at the Academic Advising Office. All forms are to be submitted to the Academic Advising Office. |
