The Faculty of Arts and Sciences seeks a DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT. The Director of Development reports to the Dean of Arts and Sciences and supervises an assistant director, secretary, and part-time staff. The development office is also responsible for planning and executing fundraising and donor-recognition events. The Faculty of Arts and Sciences includes two undergraduate colleges and the Graduate School. It has a distinguished faculty; selective honors college; expanding graduate programs; forward-looking administration committed to ongoing growth; enthusiastic alumni with dynamic leadership; loyal supporters; and an active external advisory board headed by leading Southern New Jersey business executives. Related centers and institutes focus on the arts, humanities, childhood studies, urban education, state constitutional studies, and public affairs.

We seek an experienced, energetic, flexible, well-organized, self-motivated person with the ability to speak and write well and the capacity to develop effective relationships with donors, prospects, alumni, the advisory board, volunteers, faculty, students, university foundation leadership, and senior administrators.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a significant record of success in fundraising, including a record of securing major gifts from individuals; understand the role of corporations and foundations in contemporary philanthropy; be able both to think strategically and handle organizational detail; have the ability to supervise staff and coordinate events; be capable of working effectively with multiple constituencies and handling manifold duties simultaneously; be familiar with planned giving; and possess a commitment to, and experience with, higher education, including an understanding of the role and importance of the liberal arts in the university. Some travel is required.

Rutgers University 's Camden Campus has recently created a new Center for Computational and Integrative Biology (CCIB). The Center, pending university funding, seeks an energetic and visionary academic as DIRECTOR. The CCIB is an interdisciplinary research center with its members in departments of biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics (including statistics) and physics. The mission of the CCIB is to determine the quantitative organizational principles of complex biological systems, using a combination of theoretical and experimental approaches. The CCIB is developing new doctoral and Master's programs in Computational and Integrative Biology. The CCIB will represent the Rutgers contribution to a research institute which will be housed in a new facility with partners from three biomedical research organizations located in Camden . The successful applicant will have a strong record of research in computational and integrative biology as evidenced by publications and external funding. The candidate should have outstanding credentials in biology and will join the biology department at a senior level. However, he or she should have strongly interdisciplinary interests and favor a collaborative approach. The Department of Childhood Studies seeks a scholar whose research will complement and expand its vibrant intellectual community of faculty and students. Appointment will be at the rank of ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OR PROFESSOR. Candidates must be outstanding scholars whose research interests and projects address the lives or contexts of children and childhood. Disciplinary affiliation is of less importance than the quality of candidates’ research and a demonstrated appreciation for interdisciplinary approaches to the study of children and childhood. Applications from anthropologists, criminologists, demographers, economists, historians, literary critics, philosophers, political scientists, psychologists, and sociologists, as well as scholars of American Studies and Gender Studies, are welcome.

Situated on the leading edge of a growing field inquiry and research, the Department offers BS, MA, and PhD degrees. Childhood Studies is central to the campus’ goals and enjoys the strong financial and intellectual backing of the University. The recently founded department will continue to grow through the addition of new faculty in future years.

The Department of English seeks an ASSISTANT PROFESSOR whose primary field is American literature with special emphasis on African American literature Candidates must demonstrate potential for significant scholarship.
 
The Department of English at Camden has seventeen full-time members, offering, in addition to an undergraduate major, a multi-track Master's degree and an MFA in Creative Writing. The department also contributes to general education and to numerous cross-disciplinary programs including American Studies and Women's Studies, so versatility is regarded with favor. A prospective faculty member should expect to offer graduate and undergraduate courses in the primary field, as well as undergraduate courses in secondary areas of interest. World Masterpieces (Homer through Dante), ethnic American literatures, creative writing, and film represent important current needs. The position begins in September 2008, when the Ph.D. must be in hand.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences invites applications and nominations for the Joseph and Loretta Lopez Endowed Chair in Mathematics. The department seeks a distinguished scholar in mathematics with international reputation, well-established research and teaching record, and demonstrated ability to generate external funding. This endowed chair is the first at the Camden Campus of Rutgers University. It is a tenured faculty position and the chair is for a 5-year renewable term. The holder of this chair will be a senior faculty member and a vigorous participant in the research, instruction and service work of the Department of Mathematical Sciences. The holder will also be expected to play a vital role in the campus' growing program in computational biology and the recently established Center for Computational and Integrative Biology. As such, applicants must demonstrate evidence of research in the areas of mathematical and/or computational biology.

The appointment will commence on September 1, 2008, and is at the rank of associate or full professor. The Department of Fine Arts seeks an ASSISTANT PROFESSOR in Music to begin July 2008. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach music composition, with a strong focus in applications of contemporary technology in music, such as orchestration, recording and sound editing, post-production, music for film, and to teach in other areas of the candidate’s expertise within the music curriculum. Duties will include teaching, advising, and mentoring students; engaging in community outreach; and working with other faculty to shape a growing BA program in music, with strong interdisciplinary components, within a liberal arts environment.

Qualifications include a PhD, DMA, or equivalent in Music Composition; evidence of successful record of accomplishment in music composition and experience in either professional or academic contexts; at least 2 years successful teaching experience at the college level beyond the TA. Preferred qualifications include a nationally recognized level of achievement in music composition, and teaching experience at a university or college beyond the required minimum of 2 years. The ability to teach a diverse range of music courses in a Bachelor of Arts context is also a plus. Demonstrated organizational ability and interest in community outreach will also be viewed as positive factors.

The Political Science Department seeks to fill an ASSISTANT PROFESSOR position. Candidates must be able to teach courses in International Relations, U.S. Foreign Policy, National Security, and Intelligence Policy. We are not seeking an area specialist, but some expertise in the Middle East and/or East Asia would be a plus. The successful candidate will have the Ph.D. in hand by August 31, 2008 and will have an active research and publication agenda.

The Department consists of eight full-time faculty members and offers a B.A. degree. It cooperates with the Department of Public Policy and Administration to offer an M.P.A. degree.

The Department chair and several faculty members will be attending the APSA Annual Meeting in Chicago and will be available to schedule interviews with potential candidates there. The Department of Public Policy & Administration seeks applications for an ASSISTANT PROFESSOR position in the field of international community development. The successful candidate will have received a Ph.D. by August 31, 2008, and will have experience studying or working in a developing country. In addition to teaching and research, the candidate will serve as academic advisor for the department’s track in International Public Service and Development (IPSD), the nation’s first master’s international program in partnership with the Peace Corps. Celebrating its 20 th anniversary this past year, the IPSD track accepts classes of approximately 10 students from across the nation for an intensive year of coursework followed by a two-year overseas assignment with the Peace Corps or a one year assignment with an International Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).

Areas of specialization should include at least two of the following: (1) Development Economics or International Development Studies (2) NGO Management and Community Development; (3) Development Policy. Teaching responsibilities include specialized courses in International Economic Development, International Development Administration, International NGO Management, and International Community Development.

The Department of Public Policy & Administration invites applications for a senior, tenured position (advanced ASSOCIATE OR FULL PROFESSOR) to play a leadership role in the department’s growth. The DPPA offers the only professionally accredited MPA in the Philadelphia metro area with concentrations in Public Management, Education Policy and Leadership, and International Public Service and Development (the nation’s first Masters International Program in partnership with the Peace Corps). The successful candidate will guide the launch and hiring of new faculty for a Ph.D. focused on Community and Regional Development. One of three new doctoral initiatives on the Camden Campus of Rutgers University, this interdisciplinary Ph.D. will be offered in partnership with the schools of Business and Law. Rutgers-Camden
