Modem access has been removed as of May 30, 2009.
This document contains information about ResNet and the Dialup Lines
and Modems
at the Rutgers-Camden campus.

Windows 95/98/ME and TCP/IP
Information about configuring a Windows 95/98/ME PC to connect to the
Rutgers Network over a phone line. This is the built-in networking ability
that takes the place of Trumpet Winsock for Windows 95 users.
Dial-Up Time Limit [Top]
Computing Services has enforced 10 hour time limit on dial-up
connections into all Camden Computing Services servers in Newark, New Brunswick and Camden.
After 10 hours of connection, the call will be terminated without warning.
Since the dial-up servers are a limited resource that is accessed by many
members of the Rutgers community, this limit has been instituted to maintain
an effective and efficient source of dialup access for everyone.
Macintosh Users [Top]
Macintosh users should consult Camden Computing Service's online Macintosh
documentation for more information about using the dialups with Macs.
Linux Users [Top]
Camden Computing Services also has a brief set of online documents to help
Linux
users set their systems up to use PPP with a Rutgers dialup.
Cable/DSL Modem Owners [Top]
If you are using a cable or DSL modem, you do not need to use the Rutgers dialups to access your
Rutgers account or many of Rutgers' other network-based services. If you need remote shell access or
need to transfer files between your home computer and Rutgers, we recommend you do so using
Secure Shell (SSH). For more information on Secure Shell, please refer to our
online documentation.
Some network services are restricted to computers that are directly connected to the Rutgers network.
You may be able to access these services from off campus by using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection.
For more information on using VPN to connect to Rutgers, please refer to this this Office of Information
Technology document.
On Campus Housing [Top]
If you are living in on campus housing (Camden Apartments or
Towers), you should
also read the ResNet
Networking document. Camden's apartments and towers are equipped with
Ethernet jacks
that allow your PC or Mac to connect to the Rutgers network (and the Internet)
without the use of a modem. This will require an network interface card
(NIC) to be installed in your computer and a CAT5 patch cable.
