URL Spell Checking
The web server software on clam,
crab, and www.camden (the main campus web server) will correct minor
errors
in URLs. Minor errors include single-character typos, transposed
characters, and upper/lower case mistakes.
For example, if someone tried to view this page and entered the URL
incorrectly:
http://www.camden.rutgers.edu/help/Internet/spellcheck.php
The web server software would be able to correct the case error direct
the person's browser to the actual URL:
http://www.camden.rutgers.edu/HELP/Internet/spellcheck.php
Other examples of correctable URL spelling errors include:
http://www.camden.rutgers.edu/HELP/Internet/spelcheck.php
(missing an "l" in spellcheck.php)
or:
http://www.camden.rutgers.edu/HELP/Internte/spellcheck.php
(the "t" and "e" are transposed in Internet)
While the server software is able to compensate for errors like those
described above it does not perform spell-checking like a word
processor does. Major spelling errors, where entire words are
spelled incorrectly, are beyond its ability to fix.
