2011 Gala Honorees
At this year’s Gala, Rutgers–Camden and LEAP Academy University Charter School will honor the leadership and support of four internationally-known business leaders in recognition of their unwavering commitment to improving the lives of Camden City youth and families:
José E. Fernández is Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Omega Overseas Investments Corp, a privately held international banking entity (I.B.E) since 2004.
Angelo J. Genova is a partner and co-founder of Genova, Burns & Giantomasi, which has served the public and private interests of New Jersey for more than 20 years. Mr. Genova Holds a master’s degree and law doctorate from Rutgers University and has practiced law in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania for more than 30 years. He and his firm have supported LEAP Academy and the Alfredo Santiago Scholarship since 1997.
Hernán Guaracao founded AL DIA News Inc. in 1992 and transformed an eight-page newsletter into a fully fledged news media organization with a nationally recognized newspaper and internationally recognized journalism in its repertoire.
J. Michael Schweder is the President of AT&T Mid Atlantic, including AT&T New Jersey. Mr. Schweder and AT&T have a long history of educational investment in the state and in Camden City, including a $400,000 initiative at LEAP Academy in 2008 called the ASPIRE mentoring program.
Alan F. Stein is a District Governor of Rotary International (#7640), a worldwide organization with 1.2 million members in more than 200 countries and geographic areas. Mr. Stein has been an active member in Rotary clubs in New Jersey since 1995 has supported community efforts throughout the state, including Camden City.
Our sincerest congratulations and appreciation go out to Mr. Genova, Mr. Schweider, Mr. Stein and Mr. Vergel and their organizations for all the work they have done to create opportunities for our students, families, and the people of Camden.
