Research Interests: Dr. Garcia is interested in how individuals think about the sexuality of others while paying particular attention to gender differences; how individuals make inferences about the sexuality of others; how individuals think about their own sexuality.
He has been a member of the psychology faculty since 1978, coming to Camden after earning his Ph. D. in Psychology at Kansas State University. He teaches a variety of courses, including Social Psychology, the Psychology of Human Sexuality, and the Psychology of Minority Groups. Dr. Garcia has published numerous articles about sexual identity and individual attitudes toward sexuality, often raising questions connected to gender in conjunction with his research. He makes frequent presentations about his research at professional conferences and is the co-editor of Ethical Issues in Psychology (1984).

As an Associate Director of the Center for Strategic Urban Community Leadership, Ms. Garcia supervises all aspects of programmatic and administrative activities of the Center. In her current position, she monitors daily operations, planning, and supervision of program and administrative activities, including: long range strategic planning and program development, personnel/employee relations, supervision of program staff, preparation of reports, media/public information efforts, office operations, contracts, budget development and monitoring, grantsmanship, and facilitator of communications and programs between school board of trustees, project consultants, working groups, faculty core team, state and local government agencies and officials.
Karen Gersten-Rothenberg

Karen Gersten-Rothenberg is a certified family nurse practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Prior to taking a position as a Director at the Rutgers/LEAP Health Center, Ms. Gersten-Rothenberg worked as a consultant for the Onyx Group, where she facilitated adolescent focus groups and wrote analysis for the national youth anti-drug campaign. While working as a Health Educator at the Teen Clinic/West Philadelphia Community Center, she counseled adolescents on health and social issues, conducted risk assessments, and provided case management in nurse practitioner-managed teen/family planning clinic.
Ritamarie Giosa
Child Care Health Consultant Coordinator
Camden County Division for Children
Ritamarie Giosa, RN has been a nurse for 30 years and is the Child Care Health Consultant Coordinator for Camden County Division for Children. Her background includes pediatrics, critical care, administration, public health and case management for families of at-risk young children. Ritamarie has presented many workshops to child care providers and parents on topics of health, safety and infant mental health as well as to nursing students and professionals on legislative issues, roles and role conflict in nursing. She was primary author on the Healthy Child Care New Jersey Medication Administration in Child Care Training Program and is a contributing author on the AAP/Healthy Child Care New Jersey Early Childhood Health Link. Ritamarie serves on the board of CITE and the advisory board of the New Jersey Better Baby Care Campaign. Ritamarie received her BSN from the University of Pennsylvania and is a graduate of the National Training Institute for Child Care Health Consultants at UNC-Chapel Hill.
