Grochowski sets record
in final volleyball match

PHILADELPHIA - Sophomore outside hitter Julie Grochowski (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) set a single-match school record with 40 kills, but the Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team lost its final match of the season to Chestnut Hill College here Oct. 26.

Chestnut Hill won, 30-26, 15-30, 17-30, 30-27 and 15-10, rallying from a 2-1 deficit in games.

Rutgers-Camden closes the season at 2-18, snapping its two-match winning streak.

Grochowski's 40 kills shattered her own record of 28, set Oct. 20 at Immaculata University. She also added 10 service aces, one block, 30 digs and two assists.

Junior setter Karla Maisto (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) collected 38 assists, nine aces, eight digs, four blocks and seven kills, while freshman outside hitter Nikki Cosico (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) had eight kills, nine assists, six aces, 21 digs and one block.

Sophomore outside hitter Yara Khalil (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) had 17 digs, two blocks and two kills, while junior defensive specialist Rosevic Santos (Jersey City, NJ/Abraham Lincoln) notched 11 digs, one ace, one assist and one kill. Sophomore defensive specialist Lilliana Quintana (Camden, NJ/Pennsauken Tech) collected six digs and one service ace.

For the season, Maisto set a record with 88 service aces, breaking Grochowski's mark of 52 from 2004. Grochowski also added her name to second in three categories, behind her own school marks set in 2004. She had 262 kills (274 is the mark from last season), 893 total attacks (1,120) and 354 digs (375). Maisto's 222 assists were third on the single-season charts. The record was 368 by Clare Li in 2003.


Rutgers-Camden records
second straight victory

CAMDEN - Sophomore outside hitter Julie Grochowski (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) collected 25 kills, five service aces, 36 digs, two assists and two solo blocks to lead the Rutgers University-Camden women's volleyball team over Bryn Athyn College of the New Church, 3-1, in a non-conference match here Oct. 22.

The Lady Raptors won by scores of 30-27, 30-22, 27-30 and 30-16.

It was the second straight victory for Rutgers-Camden, which improves to 2-17 overall, and marked the first time that the Lady Raptors have recorded back-to-back wins in a program history which started in 2000.

Bryn Athyn falls to 6-4 with its second straight defeat.

Grochowski's 36 digs were one shy of the program's single-match record of 37, set by Sue Nevins against Ramapo College Sept. 24, 2002.

The match also was another big one for Rutgers-Camden setter Karla Maisto (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional), who has junior eligibility but is a senior academically. Maisto, who will graduate this year, was the lone honoree as the Raptors celebrated Senior Day. She had nine kills, 34 assists, 16 digs and two blocked shots. She also added three service aces after turning in a record-setting performance at Immaculata University Thursday night in which she set the NCAA Division III five-game match record with 19 service aces.

With Rutgers-Camden trailing, 27-26, in the first game, sophomore outside hitter Yara Khalil (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) rattled off four consecutive service points to win the game. After the teams split the next two games, the Lady Raptors clinched the victory in the fourth game.

Khalil finished with nine digs, one ace and three kills. Freshman outside hitter Nikki Cosico (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) added 29 digs, four kills, five assists, three aces and one block, while freshman outside hitter Ebony Mosley (Camden, NJ/Camden Academy Charter) had 12 digs and two kills. Junior defensive specialist Rosevic Santos (Jersey City, NJ/Abraham Lincoln) notched eight digs and two assists. Sophomore defensive specialist Lilliana Quintana (Camden, NJ/Pennsauken Tech) added two service aces and five digs.


Maisto serves up first victory, NCAA record
for Rutgers-Camden volleyball

IMMACULATA, PA - Junior setter Karla Maisto (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) served out all 15 points in the decisive fifth game to spark the Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team to its first victory of the season, 3-2, over Immaculata University here Oct. 20.

The Raptors won, 30-26, 30-20, 22-30, 18-30 and 15-0, with Maisto setting an NCAA Div. III record with 19 service aces in a five-game match.

Rutgers-Camden's victory snaps its season-long losing streak and lifts the Lady Raptors to 1-17. It also snaps a two-year losing streak of 31 matches. The Raptors dropped their final 14 matches last year following a four-game win over Bryn Athyn College Sept. 29, 2004. Bryn Athyn also happens to be the Raptors' next opponent, as Rutgers-Camden hosts that team Saturday at 1 p.m.

Maisto was phenomenal in serving all 15 points in the final game, collecting a program-record 35 service points overall in the match. The old program mark of 26 service points was set by Clare Li against Rosemont College Oct. 23, 2003. Maisto also finished with 19 aces in the match, setting a program record by passing the 14 aces in a match by Katherine Maikoksoong in that Sept. 29, 2004 competition against Bryn Athyn. Her 19 aces set the NCAA Division III five-game match record, passing the mark of 18 set by Montclair State's Tori Muller against Rutgers-Newark, Oct. 22, 1991.

Maisto, who improved her own single-season school record to 76 aces, also had five kills, 37 assists, five digs and two solo blocks in the victory.

Sophomore outside hitter Julie Grochowski (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) also set a program record, collecting 28 kills to pass the mark of 27 she accomplished Oct. 15 against St. Elizabeth, which tied the program mark set by Joy Silver against St. Elizabeth (Oct. 19, 2002).

Grochowski added four aces, four blocks and 32 digs, tying for second on the single-match school digs chart. The program mark of 37 was set by Sue Nevins against Ramapo College (Sept. 24, 2002).

Freshman outside hitter Nikki Cosico (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) added 21 digs, one block, two aces, two assists and eight kills, while junior defensive specialist Rosevic Santos (Jersey City, NJ/Abraham Lincoln) notched eight digs and four aces. Sophomore outside hitter Yara Khalil (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) had 13 digs, one ace and one block, while freshman outside hitter Ebony Mosley (Camden, NJ/Camden Academy Charter) collected four digs.


Rutgers-Newark sweeps
Rutgers-Camden

RUTGERS-NEWARK - Sophomore outside hitter Sabrina Beecher (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) and junior middle Jen Snyder (Gibbsboro, NJ/Eastern Regional) each collected 12 kills to power the Rutgers-Newark volleyball team to a three-game sweep over Rutgers-Camden in New Jersey Athletic Conference action here Oct. 18.

Rutgers-Newark won by scores of 30-9, 30-21 and 30-21.

The Scarlet Raiders improve to 17-6 overall and 5-1 in the NJAC with their seventh straight win. Rutgers-Camden falls to 0-17 and 0-7.

Beecher added 10 digs, while junior libero Jessica Kleeman (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) collected a match-high 18 digs for the Scarlet Raiders. Junior setter Sheena Eldred (Fairfax, VA/Fairfax) had 17 assists and three aces in the first game before freshman Nazly Hasanizadeh (Katy, TX/Alief Hastings) came on to collect 23 assists.

Sophomore outside hitter Julie Grochowski (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) paced the Scarlet Raptors with nine kills, 14 digs, one assist, one ace and one block. Junior outside hitter Karla Maisto (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) added three kills, 10 assists, four aces and four digs.

The Lady Raptors return to action Thursday when they play a 7 p.m. match at Immaculata University.


Lady Raptors drop three matches
at Gothic Knights Invitational

JERSEY CITY - The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team won its first game of the season, but the Lady Raptors dropped a marathon match at the 12th annual Gothic Knight Invitational at New Jersey City University here Oct. 15.

The Raptors finished last in the four-team field, being swept by both host NJCU (30-15, 30-12, 30-15) and William Paterson University (30-6, 30-13, 30-18). Sandwiched between those losses was a tough defeat against the College of St. Elizabeth in which the Raptors lost 30-27, split a pair of 32-30 games and lost the final game, 30-21. The Lady Raptors' 32-30 win in the second game against St. Elizabeth was their first game victory this season. They have been swept in every other match, 3-0.

New Jersey City swept through the tournament field with three straight wins in each match to capture its second consecutive Gothic Knight Invitational title. NJCU sophomore middle blocker Lizzelle Cintron (Newark, NJ/Elizabeth) captured tournament Most Valuable Player honors.

The All-Tournament team included Rutgers-Camden sophomore outside hitter Julie Grochowski (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown). Grochowski earned a berth on the all-tourney team for the second straight year.

The sweep leaves Rutgers-Camden at 0-16, heading into Tuesday night's 7 p.m. New Jersey Athletic Conference battle at Rutgers-Newark.

In their loss to NJCU, the Raptors received 11 kills, 11 digs, two blocks and one service ace from Grochowski, while junior setter Karla Maisto (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) had 15 assists, one block, one ace and two kills.

In the loss to St. Elizabeth, Grochowski had 27 kills, four aces, 16 digs and seven blocks. Her 27 kills tied Joy Silver's single-match program record, also set against St. Elizabeth on Oct. 19, 2002. Maisto set a program single-match record with 43 assists and added two kills, three aces, three digs and three blocks. She broke the assist record of 41 by Claire Li against Keystone College Oct. 2, 2003. Freshman Nikki Cosico (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) notched 11 kills, one assist, six aces, 23 digs and one block, while sophomore Bianca Skvirsky (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) added three kills, one assist, two aces and 11 digs. Sophomore Yara Khalil (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) added one kill and six digs.

In the loss to William Paterson, the Raptors received seven kills, three aces and 11 digs from Grochowski, while Maisto had one kill, 11 assists, two aces and two digs. Cosico added one kill, one assist, one ace and 11 digs. Skvirsky had eight digs and three kills, while sophomore Lilliana Quintana (Camden, NJ/Pennsauken Tech) added three digs. Freshman Ebony Mosley (Camden, NJ/Camden Academy Charter) added one ace and one dig.

tops Rutgers-Camden

CAMDEN - Freshman outside hitter Amanda Burkhart (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) collected seven kills, six service aces and 10 digs and freshman setter Christine Aletras (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) had 20 assists, three kills, one ace, 10 digs and two assisted blocks to power Richard Stockton College to a three-game sweep over Rutgers-Camden in New Jersey Athletic Conference action here Oct. 13.

The Ospreys won by scores of 30-13, 30-17 and 30-13.

The victory lifts Stockton to 17-6 overall and 4-1 in the NJAC. Rutgers-Camden falls to 0-13 and 0-6.

Stockton also received six kills and 13 digs from senior outside hitter Whitney Verduin (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne), while senior setter Kate Hahn (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) notched five kills, two aces, 14 digs, two solo blocks and two assisted blocks.

Clinging to a 14-12 lead in the first game, Stockton rattled off 11 consecutive points to spark the three-game sweep.

For Rutgers-Camden, sophomore outside hitter Julie Grochowski (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) notched 14 kills, three blocks, 17 digs and two aces, while junior setter Karla Maisto (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) collected 20 assists, two aces, three digs and one kill. Freshman outside hitter Nikki Cosico (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) had 13 digs and six kills and freshman outside hitter Ebony Mosley (Camden, NJ/Camden Academy Charter) added two aces and five digs.

Stockton returns to action Friday with a 5 p.m. tri-match at FDU-Florham, which includes John Jay College. Rutgers-Camden plays in the Gothic Knights Invitational at New Jersey City University Saturday, which begins at 9 a.m. The Lady Raptors play the College of St. Elizabeth, William Paterson University and host NJCU.


Lee powers Kean
past Rutgers-Camden

CAMDEN - Freshman setter Jamie Lee (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) collected 32 assists, nine digs, two aces and one kill to power the Kean University volleyball team over Rutgers University-Camden, 3-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match here Oct. 11.

The Cougars won by scores of 30-16, 30-17 and 30-23.

The victory lifts Kean to 8-13 overall and 1-3 in the NJAC, snapping an eight-match losing streak. The Cougars won for the first time since a sweep over Medgar Evers College Sept. 24.

Rutgers-Camden falls to 0-12 and 0-5, stretching the Lady Raptors' two-year losing streak to 26 matches. Kean has swept Rutgers-Camden in three straight games in all four matches in the history of the rivalry.

The Cougars jumped to a quick 4-0 lead and never trailed while winning the opening game. They bounced back from a 3-2 deficit to take the lead for good at 4-3 in the second game, and they broke a 6-6 tie by scoring five of the next six points on their way to winning the final game.

In addition to Lee, the Cougars also received 16 digs, 14 kills, four aces, one assist and one assisted block from junior outside hitter Elizabeth Bauer (Rahway, NJ/Rahway), who entered the match with team-leading totals of 266 kills and 169 digs. Senior outside hitter Beth Cooper (Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro South) added eight kills and seven digs without making an attacking error. She added one assist and two assisted blocks.

For the Lady Raptors, junior outside hitter Karla Maisto (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) notched four kills, 13 assists, two aces, six digs and two blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Julie Grochowski (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) collected 11 kills, 13 digs and two blocks, while freshman Nikki Cosico (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) had two kills, three assists, three aces and 16 digs.

Both teams return to NJAC action Thursday with 7 p.m. matches. Kean visits Montclair State University, while Rutgers-Camden hosts Richard Stockton College.


NJCU sweeps
Rutgers-Camden

CAMDEN - Sophomore Lizzelle Cintron (Newark, NJ/Elizabeth) collected 14 kills, 16 digs, one solo blocked shot and four assisted blocks to power the New Jersey City University women's volleyball team over Rutgers University-Camden in a three-game New Jersey Athletic Conference sweep here Oct. 4.

The Gothic Knights won the 10th match out of their last 11 by scores of 30-19, 30-10 and 30-9. The last game was a forfeit when the Raptors lost a player and were out of legal substitutions trailing, 28-9.

NJCU improves to 14-5 overall and 4-0 in the NJAC and now lead the all-time series against Rutgers-Camden, 11-0, with each match being a three-game sweep.

Rutgers-Camden falls to 0-11 overall and 0-4 in the NJAC.

Cintron's 14 kills give her 1,122 for her career, leaving her only 21 shy of the program mark of 1,143, set by Melissa Pablos (2000-2003).

The Gothic Knights also received 11 kills and eight digs from freshman Jacqueline LeBlanc (Westfield, NJ/Westfield), while freshman Sofia Gutierrez (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) notched 24 assists, two kills and seven digs.

Sophomore Glorinell Perez (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) collected 12 digs, two assists, four kills, one solo block and one assisted block for the Gothic Knights.

Rutgers-Camden received four kills, two aces, nine digs and one block from junior Karla Maisto (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional), while sophomore Julie Grochowski (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) notched three kills, one ace, 20 digs and one block. Freshman Nikki Cosico (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) had two kills, nine assists, two aces and four digs.

The Lady Raptors also received one ace and eight digs from sophomore Yara Khalil (Medford, NJ/Shawnee), while sophomore Bianca Skvirsky (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) notched two kills and five digs.

NJCU returns to action Thursday with a 7 p.m. non-conference match at the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

The Scarlet Raptors return to action Tuesday, Oct. 11, with another home NJAC match against Kean University at 7 p.m.


Alvernia College sweeps
Rutgers-Camden

CAMDEN - Alvernia College received 11 digs, six assists and one kill from freshman Lauren Crimi (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame) and added 20 assists, three digs and two kills from freshman Jennifer Stigura (Barto, PAZ/Central Catholic) as it swept Rutgers-Camden, 30-20, 30-26 and 30-15, in a non-conference match here Oct. 1.

The Crusaders improve to 7-8 with their second straight win. Rutgers-Camden falls to 0-10.

Senior Amy Werfey (Fleetwood, PA/Brandywine Heights) added 10 kills for Alvernia, while sophomore teammate Natalie Minnich (Tower City, PA/Williams Valley) added four solo blocks, one assisted block, one kill and two assists. Senior Trish O'Gurek (Summit Hill, PA/Panther Valley) notched nine kills and two digs, while senior Laura Wilson (Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) had eight kills, one dig and one assist.

For Rutgers-Camden, sophomore outside hitter Julie Grochowski (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) collected 15 kills and 18 digs, while junior outside hitter Karla Maisto (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) had four kills, three aces and 15 digs. Freshman setter Nikki Cosico (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) added four kills, 27 assists and seven digs and sophomore outside hitter Bianca Skvirsky (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) notched 11 kills and nine digs.

The Crusaders host Marywood University at 7 p.m. Monday.

The Scarlet Raptors return to action Tuesday when they host New Jersey City University at 7 p.m. in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match.


Arcadia University
sweeps Rutgers-Camden

GLENSIDE, PA - The Arcadia University women's volleyball team evened its record at 9-9 as the Scarlet Knights swept Rutgers University-Camden, 30-28, 30-20 and 30-11, in a non-conference match here Sept. 29.

The loss drops the Scarlet Raiders to 0-9.

For Rutgers-Camden, sophomore outside hitter Julie Grochowski (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) collected 11 kills and 19 digs, while freshman setter Nikki Cosico (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) notched 17 assists, one ace, five digs and three kills. Junior outside hitter Karla Maisto (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) had three kills, one ace and nine digs, sophomore outside hitter Yara Khalil (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) had one ace and five digs and sophomore outside hitter Bianca Skvirsky (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) added three kills, one ace and four digs.

The Scarlet Raptors return to action Saturday when they host Alvernia College in a non-conference match at 11 a.m.


Rosemont College tops
Rutgers-Camden

ROSEMONT, PA - Senior Megan Whitman (Gradyville, PA/Coatesville) collected 11 kills and six aces and junior Veronica Bates (Gradyville, PA/Padua Academy) added seven kills to power the Rosemont College volleyball team over Rutgers University-Camden, 30-14, 30-18 and 30-24, here Sept. 27.

The Ramblers improve to 3-7, while the Scarlet Raptors fall to 0-8.

Seniors Stephanie O'Brien (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Meroin) and Daisy Demarco (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) had 11 assists each for the Ramblers.

Rutgers-Camden falls
at SUNY-Farmingdale

FARMINGDALE, NY - The Rutgers University-Camden women's volleyball team was swept at the First Annual WIAC Invitational at SUNY-Farmingdale here Sept. 24 as the Raptors fell to host SUNY-Farmingdale (30-22, 30-19 and 30-25) and lost three straight to Centenary College (30-23, 30-26 and 30-27).

Rutgers-Camden falls to 0-7 on the season.

In the loss to Farmingdale, sophomore outside hitter Julie Grochowski (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) collected 11 kills, 14 digs and one service ace, while junior outside hitter Karla Maisto (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) had five kills, five service aces, one block and eight digs.

Freshman Nikki Cosico (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) added 17 assists, five kills and five aces, and sophomore outside hitter Yara Khalil (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) also had one kill and one ace.

Against Centenary, Grochowski notched 16 kills, two aces, 19 digs and four blocks, Maisto had one kill, five aces, five digs and one block, and Cosico collected seven kills, 19 assists, six aces and four digs. Khalil collected three digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Bianca Skvirsky (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) added two kills, one assist, two aces, five digs and one block for Rutgers-Camden, while sophomore defensive specialist Lilliana Quintana (Camden, NJ/Camden Academy Charter) had one ace and one dig, freshman outside hitter Ebony Mosley (Camden, NJ/Camden Academy Charter) had three digs and junior defensive specialist Rosevic Santos (Jersey City, NJ/Abraham Lincoln) notched two digs.

The Raptors travel to Rosemont College Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match.


Ramapo sweeps Rutgers-Camden
in NJAC volleyball action

MAHWAH - Senior middle hitter Samantha Wejnert (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) collected 12 kills, eight service aces and one solo block to power the Ramapo College volleyball team over Rutgers University-Camden in three games, 30-11, 30-22 and 30-12, here Sept. 22.

The Roadrunners improve to 8-5 overall and 1-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, while the Lady Raptors fall to 0-5 and 0-3.

Sophomore setter Ashley Cornett (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne) added 26 assists for the Roadrunners.

For Rutgers-Camden, junior outside hitter Karla Maisto (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) had five kills, four service aces, one block and seven digs. Sophomore outside hitter Julie Grochowski (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) notched three kills, one block and 17 digs, while freshman Nikki Cosico (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) had one kill, seven assists and four digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Bianca Skvirsky (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) added one assist and five digs for Rutgers-Camden.

The Raptors travel to SUNY-Farmingdale Saturday at 12 p.m. to face both the host Rams and Centenary College.


Paterson tops Rutgers-Camden
in NJAC volleyball action

CAMDEN - Senior setter Holly Tedesco (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) collected 13 assists and five digs, senior middle hitter Viviane Abreu (Ridgefield, NJ/Ridgefield) notched three kills, five assists, three service aces and seven digs and senior outside hitter Lauren Shears (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) had 11 kills, one assisted block and three digs to power the William Paterson University volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep over Rutgers University-Camden in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match here Sept. 20.

The Pioneers, who improve to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC, swept the match by scores of 30-12, 30-14 and 30-17.

Rutgers-Camden falls to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the NJAC.

Paterson also received three kills, seven assists and two digs from sophomore outside hitter Dana Hansen (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn), while sophomore middle hitter Michelle Banom (North Arlington, NJ/North Arlington) had four kills and two digs. Senior outside hitter Kerri Lindenthaler (Haskell, NJ/Lakeland Regional) added six digs and two kills and freshman outside hitter Tasha Del Vacchio (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling) notched four kills, one solo block, one assisted block and two digs.

For Rutgers-Camden, sophomore outside hitter Julie Grochowski (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) had six kills, 13 digs, one service ace and one block, while junior outside hitter Karla Maisto (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) collected three kills, six service aces and 11 digs.

Freshman setter Nikki Cosico (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) notched 13 assists, three kills, one ace and two blocks, while sophomore outside hitter Bianca Skvirsky (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) notched six digs and one kill.

Also for the Raptors, freshman outside hitter Ebony Mosley (Camden, NJ/Camden Academy Charter) had two kills and three digs, while junior defensive specialist Rosevic Santos (Jersey City, NJ/Abraham Lincoln, NY) collected one kill and four digs.

Both teams return to NJAC action Thursday. Paterson hosts Montclair State University at 7 p.m. The Lady Raptors travel to Ramapo College for a 7 p.m. match.


Cabrini College sweeps
Rutgers-Camden

RADNOR, PA - Sophomore outside hitter Julie Grochowski (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) recorded four kills, three aces, 12 digs and two blocks, but the Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team lost at Cabrini College, 30-11, 30-7 and 31-29, here September 15.

Cabrini improves to 7-1 with its fourth straight victory. The Lady Raptors fall to 0-3.

Junior Karla Maisto (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) collected seven kills, two aces and four digs, while freshman Nikki Cosico (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) had 11 assists and two kills.

Sophomore Bianca Skvirsky (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) collected three aces and one dig. Sophomore Yara Khalil (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) added four digs.

The Lady Raptors play their home opener Tuesday night when they entertain William Paterson University in a 7 p.m. New Jersey Athletic Conference match.


Montclair State sweeps
Rutgers-Camden in NJAC opener

MONTCLAIR - Junior Heather Aciz (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) had 10 kills and 14 digs while sophomore Zairy Ramos (Newark, NJ/Bloomfield Tech) added nine kills and 10 digs as Montclair State University swept past Rutgers University-Camden, 30-22, 30-23 and 30-25 in New Jersey Athletic Conference volleyball action here Sept. 13.

Sophomore Melissa Ciaccio (North Arlington, NJ/North Arlington) registered 26 assists for the Red Hawks (2-3, 1-0 NJAC), who won their home opener and first home match under new head coach Karin Harvey.

Junior Karla Maisto (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) had eight kills, three service aces and five digs for Rutgers-Camden, which falls to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the NJAC.

Aciz also had two service aces and Ramos three to go along with three total blocks. Freshman Samantha Karpinski (Maywood, NJ/Hackensack) had six kills and two digs. Vanessa Soto (North Bergen, NJ/Baltazar) and Raquel Pichardo (Passaic, NJ/Passaic) had 11 digs apiece.

For Rutgers-Camden, freshman Nikki Cosico (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) had 13 assists while sophomore Julie Grochowski (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) recorded three kills, two aces, 10 digs and four solo blocks.

The Lady Raptors travel to Cabrini College for a 7 p.m. match Thursday.


Valley Forge Christian sweeps
Rutgers-Camden in opener

PHOENIXVILLE, PA - Sophomore outside hitter Julie Grochowski (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) collected 18 digs, six kills and six blocks, but the Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team lost its opening match at Valley Forge Christian College, 30-13, 30-18 and 30-14, here September 6.

The Lady Raptors also received 13 digs, two kills, two blocks and five service aces from junior Karla Maisto (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern), who along with Grochowski is serving as a co-captain this year.

Freshman setter Nikki Corsico (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) collected seven assists, two blocks, one ace, one dig and one kill, while sophomore outside hitter Bianca Skvirsky (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) had two aces, eight digs, one kill and one block.

Sophomore outside hitter Yara Khalil (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) notched five digs, and freshman outside hitter Jevon Miles (Camden, NJ/Camden Academy Charter) collected two digs and one ace.

The Lady Raptors return to action Tuesday when they open their New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule with a 7 p.m. match at Montclair State University.
