Xiomara Babilonia, CCAS ’03
Xiomara Babilonia received the John Giannotti Award for Excellence in Visual Arts at graduation. After graduation, she enrolled in the summer Masters of Fine Arts program for ceramics at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Her fondest Rutgers memory was her study abroad trip to Spain, headed by John Giannotti. Today she is a K-12 art teacher with the Camden City Board of Education and has stayed active in the art community by participating in numerous group shows, earning several awards and grants and becoming a member of various organizations including the Back Room Potters’ Co-op in Haddon Township.

Eve by JoAnne Castelli Castor CCAS’81
JoAnne Castelli Castor says the core of her work is the series “Emergence.” These are paintings of female figures used as elements of the landscape. She says her days at Rutgers were very exciting. She was privileged to have John Giannotti and Wendy Slatkin pass on their vast art knowledge and expertise. She is a full-time artist and works from her home studio on various projects and commissions. She has 3 daughters and 3 grandchildren, all of whom model for her paintings.

Ricardo Colon CCAS’04
Ricardo Colon did not take an art class, but trained as a singer. He learned his skills from the late Martin Dillon and gained enough confidence to audition to sing opera. He landed his first role at the age of 50 with Opera Seabrook in the role of Count Ceprano in Rigoletto.

Anna Louise Coretti, CCAS ’08, is a resident of Somerdale, New Jersey.

Jerry DiFalco CCAS ’74
Jerry DiFalco has exhibited his paintings, mixed-media works, sculptures, prints, and photographs in more than 300 solo and juried group exhibitions across North America and throughout Europe since 1979. His professional accolades include the city of Philadelphia’s 2009 Human Relations Award in Art & Culture; a Pollack-Krasner Foundation Individual Artist’s Fellowship in Painting; two grants from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts in 1992 & 1987 and the Rutgers University Award in Creative Writing in 1974 for poetry. His achievements as a visual artist and independent curator have earned him profiles in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World from 2004 to the present.

Robert Emmons GSC’02
Robert Emmons is the associate director of the Honors College at Rutgers-Camden. He is a digital documentary filmmaker focusing on American popular culture of the area. His films include Enthusiast: the 9th Art; Smalltown USA; Wolf at the Door; Yardsale; and Goodwill: The Flight of Emilio Carranza. His latest film, Goodwill, was screened as part of the Smithsonian exhibition: Our Journeys/Our Stories – Portaits of Latino Achievement at the New Jersey Historical Society and won “Best Homegrown Documentary Feature: at the 2008 Garden State Film Festival. In 2009, he received Mexico’s Lindbergh-Carranza International Goodwill Award as a “messenger of peace.” His published and presented works focus on electronic media, documentary film, and comic books. He teaches film, new media, and comics history at Rutgers-Camden. In 2009 he won the Sybil Cohen Award for Excellence in Teaching. He is currently in production for his next film, Motor to the Sea: The Blue Comet, about the famous New Jersey passenger train

Bevan Hannigan is currently a commercial artist living and working in the South Jersey area. His work is primarily in the form of 3-D signs, displays and sculptural installations.

Robert LaFerriere CCAS’81
Robert LaFerriere remembers painting still-lifes alone and with others in the upstairs painting studios of the Fine Arts Building. The room was usually filled with unusual set-ups and strange objects. “Our interpretations led to colorful and fanciful paintings of already creative ideas.”

Patricia Lafferty currently works as a scenic painter for the Broadway Theatre of Pitman. In her spare time, she has paints murals in private and commercial residences across South Jersey and Pennsylvania. She continues to paint the human form, and her first solo exhibition took place in 2008 at Hopkins House of Contemporary Art in Haddon Township. She resides in Collingswood and enjoys volunteering, outdoor activities, and photography.

Theodore Nghiem says that after graduating from Rutgers, he began graduate school in Cultural and Personality Psychology, but along the way changed paths. He says he is part librarian, photographer, globetrotter, and student. His professional career is a mix of all of these parts combined. He travels around the world capturing the culture that surrounds us all.

Portia Petty received her M.A. from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia after attending Rutgers-Camden. She teaches fine arts at Pleasantville High School and resides in South Jersey. She previously taught at the LEAP Academy.

Linda Ramsay CCAS’80
Linda Ramsay says that besides meeting her husband Dave, CCAS ‘79, her favorite memory of Rutgers-Camden is the first Europe Abroad Program for 17 art majors to France, Switzerland, and Italy for 45 days. The bonds formed on that trip and through her years at Rutgers have re-surfaced in the past 5 years in the form of painting weekends.

Mary Trivelli Schatz is a native of South Jersey, where she resides with her husband and daughter. She received her degree in mathematics and started out as a math teacher, but eventually enjoyed a career in software development in the computer industry. Following her retirement, she returned to teaching and developing her art career. She is listed as an artist in the Archives of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. She is an associate artist member of the Noyes Museum and an artist member of the Portrait Society of America. She has shown her paintings in many museums.
