Prerequisite: None. This course will not count as a Finance Elective. Management has a variety of options for raising debt and equity capital other than banks. The course critically evaluates alternatives along with the legal and regulatory environment. Topics include: Angel Investors, private placements, venture capital, junk bonds, Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) and related management issues.

Note Special Schedule. Attendance at first session is mandatory. This course explores the definition of spirituality and how spiritual principles impacts business. During the course we will examine: What is spirituality? How does the pursuit of meaning impact business strategy? To what extend do each of us want to apply spiritual concepts to our work? Through this course, we are seeking tangible ways to positively impact business through the use of spiritual concepts, beliefs and practices. Along with case studies and standard academic work, students will experience meditation, journal writing and other techniques geared towards cultivating an inner life. The course requires a willingness to be introspective and a desire to share with others. We will follow a non-standard scheduling and attendance is critical. The objective of this course is to provide a strategic and analytical examination essential to the marketing manager in understanding the complexity created by digital channels. The focus of the course will be on consumer-driven demand – sparked by new media convergence. Through a variety of cases and related readings integrating theory and practice, we will explore the implications of new technologies on both consumer behavior and global strategy. The course will be applicable to students entering marketing careers and consulting/marketing services organizations, as well as those interested in entrepreneurial careers who wish a deeper immersion into the opportunities created by digital media.
