Rutgers-Camden
hosts many events and activities, a large amount that are open to the
general public, while others are restricted to our students, faculty
and staff. Security personnel may be hired for such gatherings as
athletic events, festivals, drama presentations and concerts. To
schedule an officer for your event send an email to Lt. Pete Berrios
Access to
university
buildings other than residence halls
is available to Rutgers students, faculty, staff and others with an
authorized purpose. Access to residence halls is restricted to
residents and their invited guests. Rules and regulations regarding
housing can be acquired from the residence hall visitation policies and
procedures. Our authority and duty for the university is to make sure
that any unauthorized persons in residence halls are subject to arrest
for trespassing.
- The
entrance to the Rutgers-Camden residence complex is
attended by security guards 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. To enter
the complex, residents must present their resident identification card.
The security doors are electronically locked and opened only from the
security desk that is staffed by security personnel after proper
identification is presented. All emergency exits are equipped with
alarms and kept secured at all times. Closed-circuit television cameras
survey the area immediately surrounding the residence complex and are
monitored by the complex security desk at all times. All rooms have
locking windows; ground-floor rooms and those connecting to or near the
fire escapes are also equipped with security systems.
SPECIAL
SECURITY SERVICES
Some
of the services sponsored by Rutgers-Camden police includes student
orientation where parents and students can meet with members of the
police department, where they will be given an explanation of our main
mission which is to "Serve and Protect". Students are given a chance to
familiarize themselves with the campus and the city of Camden from a
security and safety viewpoint.
Bulletin
boards at different locations throughout the campus display crime
prevention tips and inform students on a weekly basis of incidents both
on and off campus for the previous week. Crime prevention workshops are
offered monthly while school is in session by members of our crime
prevention team. This team gives seminars and offers safety tips.
Our goal is to make students more aware of the current crime trends,
i.e., date rape, drugs used for date rape, AIDS/HIV, and other criminal
trends as the information becomes readily available.
