Method and
Theory in Psychology is designed to teach you how to use scientific methods and
theorizing as tools for understanding psychological processes. You will learn to think
critically about psychological issues and you will learn how to evaluate empirical
research in psychology. You will also learn how to read the psychological literature and
how to write a research review. Method and
Theory is one of the 4 courses required for majors in psychology. The Department has made
the course a requirement because it believes that the methods of scientific psychology are
an important part of the education of undergraduate psychology majors. These methods are
powerful tools for understanding the world around us. They are also part of the fabric of
modern Western culture. Knowing about research methods has practical benefits, as well,
because some of our students have obtained jobs precisely because they knew how to
understand and use research methods. |
